The Sport for the Gym Community
Hyrox is a fitness race. The race includes 1km runs, followed by a fitness station. Repeated 8-times.
And yet, Hyrox is not just a race, it is peak fitness community. Where one of the most competitive communities scramble for a chance to be a global contestant and qualify for ‘the World Series of Fitness Racing’.
Founded in 2017, by Christian Toetzke and Moritz Fürste, with a vision to connect the cross-fit community with a similar networking model set by Strava, by creating a benchmark for a fixed fitness race. In 2018, the first Hyrox event was held in Hamburg, Germany where 650 participants raced to be the male and female elite winners of the competition. The following year, the first World Championships in Oberhausen, Germany tracked the fastest times for men and women champions.
Sponsors soon followed, Puma and Redbull, seeing promise 3 years in, global interest reaches over 1M+ members, 16,000 local gyms sign up for Hyrox-affiliate status, and now there is $2.5M in seasonal purse prizes.
In 2026, Hyrox is projected to make $270M in revenue from tickets, merch, sponsorship, and gym affiliates.
The fixed format is key, this race is standardized and athletes can compete against everyone, anywhere, anytime.
At the event's functional exercise stations, participants are required to complete the following:
1 kilometer of running into 1 kilometer of SkiErg (Nordic Skiing)
1 kilometer of running into 50 meters of sled push
1 kilometer of running into 50 meters of sled pull
1 kilometer of running into 80 meters of burpee broad jump
1 kilometer of running into 1 kilometer of rowing
1 kilometer of running into 200 meters of kettlebell farmer carry
1 kilometer of running into 100 meters of sandbag walking lunge
1 kilometer of running into 100 wall balls.
The finishing touch is the events themselves. Tailored after the grand scale of Olympic entrances and events, and a professional backdrop to celebrate the gym-going athlete, their training techniques, and crowning the winners.
In 2027, races kick off in Amsterdam (January), then Cancun – Chicago - Phoenix (February), followed by Mechelen – Miami Beach – Las Vegas (March), all in lead up to the World Championships in June 2027 in Hong Kong.
Will the 2027 athletes take on and beat the current record, already dropped 15 minutes off the original races?
